Weekend Recap

In case you're wondering, I started writing this post while laying in bed at 9pm on Saturday night . . . without a single monitor on the bed table next to me! The girls were each at a grandparents' house, and Matty and I had a productive/relaxing day.

Thursday's gymnastics class involved practicing back flips . . .

rope swinging . . .

 . . . and hand stands.

Lucy loves watching the big girls practice.

Lucy is finally showing an interest in dress up clothes, and we've got some cute hand me downs from Sadie. In a matter of 10 minutes, Lucy was Princess Sleeping Beauty . . .

Princess Belle . . .

. . . and Princess You are Not Leaving the House in that Dress. This princess needs a little work on her wardrobe.

We had a play date on Friday morning, and the baby cuteness was in full effect!

This was Lucy's very first experience with sand. And her last, as far as I'm concerned ;) Way to go Leslie for having a sand table for your kiddos, but I could never handle it!

Making some improvements to the statue.

Another one for the Miss Lisa and Emmy Roses collection.

Play dates are so fun!

Daniel Tiger's Dad had been missing for a week. We thought we'd looked everywhere, but Lucy found him underneath her roly poly penguin on Friday. When I asked her what even made her go over there to look, she said, "I heard him crying, mom." #whoa

Oh. My. Gosh.

Remember how I said I was trying to limit my sweets to Saturdays only? Happy Saturday!!!

Look at Miss Emmy eyeing our donuts. Someday, little lady, someday.

Grandma Ri sent this to me Saturday afternoon. Looks like Em is enjoying her sleepover. Those eyes! Those arm rolls!

Matty and I had a great date night on Saturday. The weather was perfect, so we sat outside and ate Mexican food. This was just our appetizer! It was sooo delicious, as were the burrito and tacos that followed it! At one point I said that I felt like I probably could keep eating, but that I should stop. Matty said we never splurge like this and to keep going. #yessir

After doing lots of cleaning on Sunday morning, we picked up Emmy and headed to my parents' house to see Lu and celebrate my dad's birthday.

Lucy hadn't napped the day before, and the party was right at nap time, so she was fading fast. She rallied in time to eat a cupcake, though.

The birthday boy!

It's impossible to get five kids to all look at the same time. I chose this one because Emmy Roses is showing everyone how it's done! Actually, I guess everyone is doing it except Lucy. #ofcourse

After a few more meltdowns, Lucy finally fell asleep about ten minutes after we left for home.

Emmy's first time facing forward in the Ergo! She seemed happy, and I got to vacuum. #winwin

Man, do we have a busy week ahead of us! Emmy's four month doctor visit, Kindermusik, gymnastics, and packing for a little vacation in Cedar Point at the end of the week! It's supposed to be HOT again this week, so I think we'll be pulling out the pool and water table as well.

Have a great week!

Life Lately

Honestly, not a whole lot has happened since Tuesday morning's post. We had a particularly trying day on Tuesday. Of course, Matty golfs on Tuesday nights so it was like the never ending day for me.

It got off to a good start. Emily woke up early and Lucy slept in. So I got some good morning play time and snuggles with Em and even got to rock her to sleep for her first nap of the day before Lucy woke up.

But once she was up, she was up in a big way. I thought Lu was in Emmy's room playing with her dollies, but then I heard, "Come see me, momoo!" Never a good sign. She had crawled into Emmy's crib!

Both girls were fairly fussy most of the day, and nap time did not go well. I tried putting Lucy down, but it didn't work. No matter what I tried, she would not play quietly while I tried to rock Emmy, so I brought in her chair and the Kindle and officially surrendered to technology. Emily was crying quite a bit while I was rocking her, and instead of showing any sort of compassion Lucy just yelled, "Be quiet, Emily, I can't hear Daniel Tiger!" Don't forget to vote for me when the Mother of the Year awards come around.

We had a play date scheduled for Wednesday morning, but needed to stop by Grandma Ri's on the way. Both girls were awake before 7am, so this is what I saw when we pulled in to Rita's driveway at 9:30am.

They woke up and rallied for a super cute pic on Grandma Ri's couch. Isn't it awesome when you dress your kiddos to match the accent color of their Grandma's house?? #notplanned #iswear #bythemoonandthestarsinthesky

So we made it to our play date, and this is the only picture I managed to take. This tower of power is a little better than ours!

The girls must have gotten together and decided to do something nice for mama since Tuesday was such a hard day, because after we got home from our play date they took super great naps! Lucy went down first and napped for THREE HOURS, and then I rocked Emmy for a bit and put her down and she slept for TWO HOURS! #iforgiveyou

Lucy jumped on the trampoline after dinner last night while we did a little mini photo shoot with Emily.

We have this collage of Lucy framed in our house, and both of us just think it's the cutest thing ever. I was looking at it the other day and realized that Emmy is about the same age as Lucy was in these pictures. (Lucy was a little over 4 months old, Emmy will be 4 months next week.) Unfortunately, Emmy doesn't fit in this outfit, but we decided we'd try to get Emmy to give us some smiles while I stood in the same spot.

This is the best we got, and the only one where she was smiling. Unlike Lucy, Em makes us work for her smiles. If I hide the camera she usually is super smiley, but as soon as she sees the camera or my phone she focuses on that and forgets to smile. She better shape up!

She didn't smile much because she was too busy chewing on her hand, which is her pose of choice lately.

And it's hard to smile when you are drooling like crazy. All day, every day. Drool is life around here.

So we couldn't make a collage like we did for Lucy, but I did make a cute comparison photo!

Matty said that Emily's headband makes her look like Tupac, so naturally I had to make this comparison photo as well.

Jeez Louise, slow day in blog land, eh? Thanks for hanging in there with me! I promise to never blog about Tupac ever again. You'd think a mother of two would have more pressing things to do.

We have gymnastics today and then a play date tomorrow. And THEN, on Saturday Matty and I will have approximately 27 hours of time all to ourselves! That's right, the girls are hitting the road!!! Lu is going to my parents' house, and Emmy Roses is going to Grandma Ri's. And guess what we are going to do . . . our own thing! Yep, that's right. We are going our separate ways during the day to get projects/errands/book reading/naps/relaxing/whatever the heck we want to do done, and then will reconvene for dinner and a movie in the evening. Matty is looking forward to renting an action movie and watching it as loud as he wants, so I may bow out of the movie portion of our staycation as well. We are both really looking forward to having no time constraints, no schedule, and no commitments. One of us will be totally fine, and one of us will still miss our girls terribly. I'll let you decide.

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Recap: Cottage Edition

I forgot to mention that we were going to be out of town through Monday afternoon so there wouldn't be a Monday morning recap. Oops! #sorrymom
From Friday morning through Monday evening, our weekend was filled with activities!

The house across the street from us was getting a new driveway poured on Friday morning . . . at 7am. The noise and trucks provided some entertainment for awhile.

Madeline, Minnie, and her purse . . . isn't that what everyone takes to the park with them??

Emily Roses was looking extra cute on Friday because she was meeting mama's friend Jeanette for the first time!

Jeanette and I were hired at St. Sebastian the same year and worked together for six years before she quit to stay home with her baby boy. We were instant friends . . .like the universe just knew what it was doing kind of friends! I was at the hospital when both of her kiddos were born, and she was the first friend to come and hold Lucy in the hospital. Sadly, last summer Jeanette, her husband, and their two kiddos moved to CALIFORNIA for her husband's job. She's been back in our time zone visiting family for six weeks. But her family is in Fort Wayne, Indiana! We met up a few weeks ago for a mamas only shopping day, so I was super pumped to get to see her again on Friday so she could finally meet Emmy Roses!

Both of my girls love Jeanette!!

We met at a park, but it quickly became clear that it was just too darn hot to be outside. So we let the girls conquer this slide about a dozen times before heading for frozen yogurt!

Jeanette's daughter, Marie, is four years old and such a sweetie! She and Lucy got along well.

Lucy took about three bites of her yogurt and then asked for her apple slices. WHERE DID I GO WRONG??!! Obviously, I've failed as a mother already.

Both girls took pretty good naps on Friday afternoon, thank goodness, because I had to pack us up and be ready to head to the cottage when Matty got home from work. Lucy wore two pairs of sunglasses and kept saying, "I all dressed up!"

Someone's getting some personality!

We arrived at the cottage at 9pm on Friday night, and it was HOT. Like, uncomfortable to sleep kind of hot. By the time we woke up in the morning, though, it was like 60 degrees and raining! We took Lucy into town to explore a few of the shops. She picked out a few new puzzles and a necklace, and then we went to a coffee shop that supposedly had really good cookies. They were yummy . . . but I still think mine are better! This was the only pic I got . . . Lucy anxiously awaiting the arrival of her cookie.

We headed to the local library next to pick up some movies for the evenings after the girls go to bed. They had two gigantic bears in the children's section, and Lucy loved them.

"I do work like Dadu!"

It finally warmed up a bit and stopped raining by the time nap time was over. We tried to do a walk and bike ride, but it was so humid and buggy that we gave up and went back inside.

We played inside for awhile and then decided to head back into town to check out the playground and pick up pizza for dinner.

Not a bad backdrop for a playground!

It takes a real man to wear a pink necklace! When we were at the shops earlier that morning, Lucy loved this pink necklace. She calls it her "beautiful pendant!" haha At first, I really didn't want to get it for her because I thought she was too little for necklaces, but she was so cute with it. And it's actually meant to be a teething necklace so when Emmy's a little older I can wear it, and she can safely chew on it. Or maybe Matty should wear it since he looks so good with it on!

The girls invaded our bed on Sunday morning!

We finally had a nice, sunny day so we headed out on the boat.

Don't worry, it was an unopened can!

Emmy held court on the couch for awhile after we came up from the boat. You may notice that she's wearing a different onesie than she had on the boat . . . she had a poop blowout right as we were headed back in for lunch. Lucy's poor Minnie Mouse towel took the brunt of it.

Apparently Matty likes to pose his daughters with his beer.

All that beer must have really messed with Emmy's sleep schedule, because she did not want to go to bed Saturday night. She fussed and fussed for quite awhile while I tried to rock her. I finally gave up and put her on the ottoman to kick for awhile, and she was happy as a clam!

Monday morning was cool and windy again, so no boat for us :(  Lucy managed to get a little bike ride in, though, before we packed up to head home.

Emmy was pretty fussy Monday evening, so I put her in the carrier to calm her down. We picked up Chipotle for dinner, and I didn't want to risk trying to lay her down. I stood up to eat and didn't want to drop any of my burrito bowl on her head . . . so I used my napkin as a barrier!

And that was our weekend! Certainly not the greatest weather, but we still managed to have a good time. Both girls slept fairly well, and I even managed to get in one nap!

We're back to regular life now for the rest of the week, and I'll be a day behind in my head since we stayed at the lake til Monday.
