Weekend Recap

We had a busy but fun weekend filled with parties, sprinklers, and slides!

We started out with a dinner with the girls Thursday evening. For the past few years, Matty has played in the Hitachi golf league on Thursday nights. Two years ago, Marie (the wife of Matty's coworker and golf partner) and I would go out for dinner and drinks on Thursday nights or go get mani/pedis. Last year I didn't get out too much on Thursdays because I was figuring out life with a newborn. This year, we don't get together every Thursday but when we do, it's with our baby girls! Amelia is almost five months old and is an absolute doll! She and Lucy did a great job at dinner . . . and during our ice cream treat afterward!

Saturday was my dad's 66th birthday, and Lucy dressed up for the occasion! I saw this onesie on Zulily when Lucy was 3 months old. The only size available at the time was 18 months, so I ordered it and put it away in her closet. The timing worked out perfectly, and she was able to debut it at her Papa's birthday party!

The only picture I took at Buddy's. She did a great job and was pretty happy most of the time, despite how she looks in this picture! From the angle of her death stare, my guess is that she was eyeing her Uncle Zack!  ;)  The good news is that both at the restaurant and at my parents' house afterward Zack and Lucy were able to be in the same room together without any tears. #progress

Random story: There was a cute little boy at the table behind us who wandered over toward Lucy's high chair with his daddy. We said hi, and when I asked how old the boy was his dad said 14 months. That's they same as Lucy so I commented that his birthday must be in May. The dad said yep, he was born on the 15th. The same day as Lucy!!! How random is that?! Lucy and her birthday buddy, Tanner, stared at one another for a minute and then went their separate ways.

My clever mom did a "Route 66" theme for my dad's 66th birthday. It was very cool. She had a map as the runner down the center of the table, and my dad's gifts were wrapped in maps as well.

My SIL, Carla, made these cute signs.

Sander's Bumpy Cake? Yes, please!

My dad with all of his grandkiddos. Way to look happy for the picture, Lucy!

Lucy got her Papa a nice little decorative stone for the backyard.

The Littles playing together tolerating one another.

We had a graduation party to go to that evening. We have a 40 minute drive home from my parents' house, and we REALLY wanted Lucy to stay awake so that we could put her down for a nap at home and then take a nap ourselves! She started pulling wipes out of a travel pack that I keep in the car. At first I tried to stop her, but she kept pulling all of them out and then I'd shove them back in and she'd do it again. I decided it was worth the $1.97 the pack of wipes cost if it kept her occupied!

Lucy kept trying to steal her daddy's adult beverage at the graduation party.

There's the bounce house! It was empty for a minute or two, so we put Lucy in it. She kind of sat there and bopped up and down for about 30 seconds before a bunch of big kids got in it. I struggled to pull her out because she definitely wanted to stay in! She fussed for a few minutes, but then got distracted by this bean bag game. She'd walk around and pick up the bags . . .

 . . . drop them in the hole . . .

. . . and then clap for herself. She's her own personal cheerleader.

As usual, trying to start the week off with some healthy choices. And I took this photo whilst munching on devouring chocolate chips.  #balancedlife

As our Sunday progressed, so did Lucy's fussiness. Matty was outside repositioning some of our sprinkler heads and Lucy kept fussing to go outside. Because I wanted to avoid creating World War 3 by daring to try putting her in a swim suit or swim diaper, I just took her out and turned her loose in the sprinklers.

I swear, she got wetter than she does when she plays in her pool!

The fussiness persisted so I decided to take her back inside. I stripped her down completely naked. She had grass all over her though, so I picked her up and swung her around through one of the sprinklers. It may have been the happiest moment of her life thus far. Do I have a picture of it? Nope . . .but I have the memory in my brain, and it was great!

Someone learned how to climb up the slide by herself! If she did it once, she did it 50 times today. I still keep my hands right by her (except when I was taking this picture!), but she does pretty well and only needs a little help figuring out how to get her feet out from underneath her at the top.

Grilled cheese tastes better after it's been sitting on your head for several minutes.

A fussy Sunday led into a fussy bedtime. Our sweet little cupcake needed a few extra cuddles in order to fall asleep, and I was happy to oblige!

And finally, even though my Molly's Must Haves post has been put on the back burner until my class has ended, I felt like I needed to share my new nail polish. You need this color in your life!

If you see me between now and fall, chances are pretty good I'll have this on either my fingers or toes (right now I have it on both!). It's a deep pink with a nice, luminescent (iridescent?) overtone (Thank you, Matty, for helping me put my description into words!).  It's called Pompeii Purple, and you can get it here on Amazon for $2 cheaper than what I bought it for at Target! #neverdoubtthePrime Go ahead, click the link and put it right into your shopping cart. You'll be so happy you did! In fact, buy two and save one for a stocking stuffer for someone. I don't know about you, but I love getting a good nail polish as a gift.

Have a great week! Can you believe it's AUGUST already??!!

Life Lately: Play, Play, and More Play!

Life lately has been filled with lazy days of playing around the house. The only activity we had scheduled this week was a play date that ended up getting cancelled, so Lucy and I have been taking it easy.

Playing with her wash cloth after breakfast.

Playing with mama's phone to take some selfies.

Playing with Minnie and Sydney.

Playing with a new app on Daddy's phone. Lucy Fox!

Here's how Matty and I have been playing. Chocolate peanut butter ice cream and The Bachelorette make for a great Monday night!

Lucy and I hit up the mall for a nice little lunch date on Tuesday. She was super smiley, waved at all the mall walkers, and ate every piece of food I brought for her.

Playing on the floor in the playroom.

While I was filling up our freezer after our Trader Joe's run, Lucy grabbed the Haagen Dazs (Yes, there was some left over after The Bachelorette. Can't believe it!) and tried to share it with Sydney. Anything with peanut butter is Sydney's favorite, so Lucy made a good choice. #usedtobefrenemies #officiallybffs

Look at that long legged lady! Lucy woke up before I had finished my morning chores, so she got to hang out in our room and have her morning bottle.

Playing in the pool after dinner.

It's important to stay hydrated when it's so hot out. Thanks, Aunt Carla, for buying the dingos the largest water bowl ever!

Lucy had some visitors on her front porch.

Playing with her stuffies.

Playing with her clean laundry. She's looking at herself in her mirror in this picture, which is her new favorite thing to do. I think Lucy has officially realized her cuteness!

Last, but not least, I'd like to give a shout out to my dedicated hubby who has been working tirelessly to keep our front lawn looking good despite the lack of rain. Check out that striping!

That's about it. I know I said I was working on a Molly's Must Haves post for this week . . . but I'm still working on it. It's crunch time for the end of my class, and I'm not quite as far as I should be. It's so tempting to sit and blog or read a book during nap time, but I need to get serious and do some work now. I mean it this time!

Have a great weekend! We have a birthday party and a graduation party to attend. Word on the street is that the graduation party is going to have a bouncy house. Show of hands . . . who thinks I should throw Lucy in and see how she does?! ;)

XOXO

Weekend Recap: Lucy's First Sleepover!!

We had a great weekend over here at the Kissel house. It's not very often that we aren't at the cottage during summer weekends. It was nice to enjoy a little summer fun at home this weekend and next weekend too!

Lucy usually wakes up before Matty leaves for work in the morning. On this particular day, she decided to try holding on to his work badge in the hopes of keeping him home longer. If I thought that would have worked, I would have tried it years ago!

Somersaults are all the rage at our house lately! She gets into this position and then waits for someone to flip her over. Unfortunately, she's started to do it in her crib during nap time as well!

We had a play date at a kiddie pool in Ann Arbor at 10:00 Friday morning. This is what Lucy was doing at 10:15. #wewerelate

This was Buhr Park Pool in Ann Arbor. They have this really cute wading pool that has a "tot splash" on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays from 10-1. No big kids allowed! It has splash fountains and only goes up to 2 feet deep. The babies loved it! If you're looking for something fun to do with your tiny tots, I highly recommend it. For $5 you get to have tons of fun, and there's plenty of shady, grassy spots for picnic lunches.

Catherine, Ella, and Lucy had a great time, but we missed Greta and Colt!

Lucy now understands that her yogurt pouches are kept in the fridge. Friday afternoon she walked to the fridge, put her hands on the handle, and looked at me. When I opened it up for her, she grabbed a yogurt pouch and high tailed it over to Daddy's lap!

She was super happy about her bonus snack!

Lately it seems like if Lucy isn't posing for somersaults, she's doing this. She has become obsessed with Sydney, and Syd handles it like a champ. Matty and I can't believe this because, when I was pregnant, we were convinced that Sydney would most likely try to attack our baby because she is terrible with kids. Turns out she loves LuLu and doesn't mind at all when Lucy pulls her tail, pokes her in the eye, or plays with her collar. Don't worry, we still watch her like a hawk, though.

Because it was 100 degrees on Saturday, we packed up and headed to my parents' house to swim. Lucy seems to like the baby pool a bit better than the big pool. By the middle of the afternoon, the water in the baby pool was warmer than her bath water!

Around 4:00 we packed up and headed home . . . minus one Lucy Belle! Can you believe it?? Lucy had her first sleepover at Oma and Papa's! I forgot to take any pictures before I left. First, because I was a nervous wreck, and secondly because Lucy actually fell asleep before we left . . . which made leaving much easier!

Here's one that my SIL snapped after we had left and Lucy woke up from her nap.

Lucy loves her Oma!

In case you're wondering, we decided to leave Lucy with my mom and dad because after 14 months I've never left her for more than 6 hours. I knew that I needed to feel comfortable leaving her somewhere overnight in case the need ever arises. Oh, and as my mom liked to point out, Lucy is the only one of their four grandbabies who hadn't had a sleepover yet. I just felt like I was ready so we ripped off the band-aid and did it. I did surprisingly well. Matty and I went home and took a nap then went out to dinner! I woke up on Sunday morning at my usual time, read in bed for awhile, did three loads of laundry, cleaned the bathroom, and went to the grocery store all by 11:00. It's amazing what I can get done when I'm not watching that sweet baby!

So everything went really well! Lucy was happy as a clam, went to bed easily and slept the whole night! Papa made her pancakes for breakfast and, from what I hear, snuck in a few treats here and there. When I went to get her at noon on Sunday she was back down for a little snooze!

While I was away picking up Lucy, Matty put together an outdoor storage box to keep Lucy's toys in. She enjoyed having a new little place to play in before we moved it outside.

Making a pillow fort with daddy.

Lucy got a new sleep sack and some sippy cups on Sunday. She probably spent fifteen minutes playing with her new cups and putting the lids on and off. Matty suggested that I just buy her a set of Tupperware instead of toys and call it a day.

Lucy debuted a new skill Friday evening: walking backward. She was standing in the middle of the playroom, gave Matty and me a funny look, and then slowly started walking backward while staring at us. It looked like she was moon walking in slow motion! While I was at Buy Buy Baby Sunday buying those new sippy cups, she started doing it again and Matty caught a little bit on video!

That's all she wrote. We have a pretty low key week coming up. I'm hoping to take Lucy to the Kid's Corner at the gym a few times . . . and get her to stay more than nine minutes! Here's hoping!

Have a great week!
