Weekend Recap: The Extended Version

I didn't do a "Life Lately" post this week for a few reasons. First, because Lucy was still sick this week so there was not a ton of pictures to be taken. Secondly, because I've been TIRED. Caring for a sick baby is fairly time consuming, and most nights last week I dozed off on the couch. Except for Bachelor Night. Because the adrenaline of who's going to get sent home keeps me going! So the recap of our weekend will actually include some of the pictures I did manage to take throughout the week. A little extra Lucy never hurt anyone!

Bonding time through the Pack N Play. Nothing would make Sydney happier than if I put her in there with Lucy.

My snack for watching The Bachelor. I wish I could say my nightly snack was always this healthy. Fresh fruit is starting to come out of its winter time slump, and I'm excited!!

Apparently watching Lucy play with her toys is exhausting for Snort!

I lured her away from her books for about five minutes. It looks like she's having the two bears kiss here, which is adorable!!

Lucy has become pretty attached to her Ducky, which we think is super cute. We picked up an identical one, just in case. This way I can wash and alternate and she'll never know.

Wednesday night and Thursday morning we got about 5" of wet snow. Here's Matty taking care of it before getting ready for work. What a guy!

A healthy breakfast to snack on throughout the morning. The muffin has blueberries in it, so that counts!

Lucy was feeling much better on Friday, and I decided it was time to venture back out into the world . . . so we met Matty for lunch!

It was a great change from our usual daily routine during the week. As we were getting ready to leave, a lady at the table next to us commented on how cute Lucy is and said, "It's a shame you two don't like that baby very much." haha

Lunch was so exhausting that she just couldn't manage to stay awake at the post office. #giantbabyhands

Saturday was Aunt Sarah's birthday. I had it written in my planner, but I forgot to back up four days and write "mail Sarah's card" like I usually do. So when I realized on Thursday that a card would not make it to Bloomington, Illinois by Saturday I decided to have Lucy help me make a little photo card. Here is the result. The bottom right picture is pretty hilarious.

The two hours between Matt getting home from work and Lucy going to bed is often challenging for us. There's dinner to be made, dogs to be walked (weather permitting), playtime, and bath time. And this past week has been particularly challenging because Lucy hadn't been feeling well. So one night we decided to take Lucy to Meijer and walk around just to change up our routine a bit. So as we were perusing the toy aisles, we happened upon a Little Tikes swing that was on clearance for $13! We had been discussing the fact that we'd like to hang a swing in the backyard for Lucy this summer, so we took advantage of the good deal and snatched one up . . . . and hung it in the basement for the rest of the winter!

Lucy wasn't quite sure what to think of it at first.

But she finally realized she was having a good time!

Saturday afternoon was spent bouncing on Papa's knee . . .

. . . and reading books with Oma.

The last bit of this post is dedicated to the food we ate this weekend. One of Matt's coworkers grows honey in the woods outside of their building. Yes, you read that correctly. So on Friday Matty brought home a piece of honeycomb in a plastic container and started straining it to get the honey out.

It was a slooooow process, so eventually he broke out the hairdryer to heat up the honey.

This is what he ended up with.

And here's what it looked like drizzled over homemade biscuits on Sunday morning! Delicious!!

Sunday evening Matty made pork tenderloin and roasted vegetables. He decided to jazz the veggies up a bit by adding bacon on top of half them. That half was not for my taste, but he really enjoyed it.

So that was our weekend. We've got a busy week coming up, starting with a WEDDING on Monday evening!! Yes, that's right, my cousin Jessie and her fiance Justin are getting married on Leap Year. I'm pretty sure it will make for an exceptionally exciting Monday night.

Sorry if this post is a little more hodge podge than usual. I'm having a difficult time dividing my attention between blogging and the Oscars. #ShowLeoSomeLove
As usual, though, I'll have to watch Good Morning America tomorrow to see who the big winners are, because I'll be snoozing long before they announce the important awards.

Have a great week!! Do something awesome with your extra day!
XOXO

What's Up Wednesday

Several of the blogs that I follow all get together and do this "What's Up Wednesday" post once a month, so I thought I'd join in and give it a try. They answer the same group of questions every time. My answers have made this the longest blog post ever, but I hope you enjoy reading it!

What we're eating this week . . .

Matt had a work dinner on Monday, so my mom came over to visit and we had PANCAKES FOR DINNER! This is my favorite. Matt used to enjoy this as much as I did, but over the past few years he's not digging the breakfast for dinner anymore. Thanks, mom, for indulging me!

Yesterday we had pork chops and sweet potatoes. (Boring but healthy.)

Today we are having Crockpot Chicken Enchiladas. It is the easiest and yummiest recipe ever, and I will share it on the blog sometime soon!

What I'm reminiscing about . . .

Our gender reveal party! If you read my previous post, you'll recall that I recently played a part in helping my friends Bridget and Brian find out the gender of their baby (BOY!). It got me thinking about last January when we found out we were having our sweet little Lucy. Matt and I found out the gender at the actual ultrasound first thing in the morning. Then Matty went off to work and my friend Jeanette and I spent the day baking cupcakes filled with pink frosting, going out to lunch, and randomly looking at one another and squealing because I was having a GIRL! It really was the best day ever!

Then in the evening we went to Matt's mom's house, and everyone came over wearing either pink or blue as their guess.

You guys, I wish I knew how to post videos on here because the video of everyone biting into their cupcakes is PRICELESS. Everyone's reactions are hilarious, but there are too many people to watch all at once so I end up watching it like five times in a row. Here's a screen shot of some reactions. My mom and dad's expressions speak for themselves, I envision Carla thinking, "Darn it, I KNEW I should have worn the pink shirt," and Andy is wondering when everyone will just be quiet so he can eat his cupcake in peace. Good times!

What I'm loving . . .

I'm loving that as I'm sitting here typing this I got an email that a computer bag Matt randomly listed on eBay for $75 just sold for $100! Hello, unexpected money!

What we've been up to . . .

Not a whole lot. All three of us have been taking turns with a bad cold so we haven't felt like doing much. There's been a lot of snuggling during nap time.

What I'm dreading . . .

Please refer to the "What I'm doing this weekend" section below. My answer is the same. ;)

What I'm working on . . .

An online class to keep my teaching certificate current. It's self paced and is supposed to take 50 hours to complete, and I have until May to complete it. The topic is bullying and relational aggression. A lot of what I'm reading is actually quite interesting, but I'm bummed out about having to take that information and answer questions and create outlines and things like that.  I'm usually a pretty diligent person, but I get so little downtime that I dislike having to spend some of it working on a class. But, c'est la vie.

What I'm excited about . . .

Summer . . . because check out these two adorable outfits I saw at Von Maur! They are a bit pricier than your average baby clothes, but you can bet one of them will find its way into Lucy's summer collection.

What I'm watching/reading . . .

I'm watching The Bachelor, and I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm a Bachelor/Bachelorette junky. It's like the Super Bowl of love, and I can't wait to see who wins! I'm currently Team Lauren, but as I type this I haven't watched this week's episode yet. . . I could see myself being swayed toward Team Caila.
Matty sits on the couch and "looks at stuff on the computer" while the Bachelor is on. He says he likes my reactions more than the show. However, he had a work dinner that went late Monday night. He called to tell me he was going to be home later than he thought, and when I lamented the fact that we wouldn't be able to watch The Bachelor I think it should be noted that he did not tell me to go ahead and watch it without him! And, giving credit where credit is due, I believe his exact words were "That guy's a turd" when Juan Pablo started his season . . . and we all know how that turned out!

I'm currently reading The Lion's Game by Nelson DeMille. It's an oldie but a goodie. Matty and I read it for the first time maybe 15 years ago. It's almost 800 pages, but if flies by. He decided to reread it a few weeks ago and so I followed suit. I can count on one hand the number of books I've reread throughout my life, so that's how you know this one is a winner. It's pre 9/11 terrorism in NYC, and it sucks you in from the very first page.

What I'm listening to . . .

You mean besides the lullabies on the baby monitor and the humming of my breast pump? I've been playing some Adele lately, which I've been liking.

What I'm wearing . . .

My standard mama outfit: workout pants or leggings, and a comfy shirt that I don't mind getting baby spit or food on! To be fair, I do get up and shower, put on make up, and dry my hair everyday . . . then I just put comfy clothes on. Who wants to wear jeans when you're on the floor with a baby?! My fashion sense has flown right out the window this winter, but I'm gonna try and make a comeback for spring. Promise.

Side Note: The Reebok shirt I'm wearing was picked out by Matty as a Christmas gift, and it is definitely one of my favorite shirts right now. If the stripes weren't so darn memorable, I'd definitely wear it multiple times a week.

What I'm doing this weekend . . .

There's only one thing written in my planner so far: taxes. Ugh! This really should affect Matty more than me since he is the one that actually does them. But I'm the paper pusher, which means that as he goes through the program and requires certain documents, it's my job to produce them. And when there is suddenly something missing from the folder that should be there I get all flustered because "I know I put it in there because I remember from not having it for last year that we needed it for this year so I was very careful to put it in the folder so I don't know why it's not there!" Ahhh!!

This is my year, though. I just know it. Last year I was SO CAREFUL. If the tax program needs to know exactly how much we paid for every pill I was given in the hospital when I had Lucy, I have it all saved. License plate renewals, receipts from repairs on the rental house, property tax info . . it's all ready to go. Plus, we had a baby last year so that automatically should give us some money back, right?! Here's hoping!

What I'm looking forward to next month . . .

Lucy's been invited to her very first birthday playdate! Ella, Colt, and Greta (three of her little baby friends) all turn one in the next few weeks, so their mamas have joined forces to celebrate with the babies together. The best part? The girls are encouraged to wear party dresses!! Hand over that eBay or tax return money . . . baby needs a new pair of shoes! And a dress! And a new hair bow!

What else is new . . .

Lucy had her nine month check up yesterday.

Weight: 20lb 8.5oz . . . 82 percentile
Height: 30" . . . 98 percentile!!
Head: 17" . . . 75 percentile
Cheeks: Off the charts (I know, I've used this joke before)

She is doing great, and we got the ok to start introducing more dairy. woo hoo!

So that's about it. I hope you enjoyed my random thoughts and pictures. We are supposed to get quite a bit of snow today and into tomorrow. Now that I'm no longer teaching, I really have no use for snow because I don't need to sit at home and anticipate whether or not it will be a snow day!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

XOXO

Weekend Recap

Lucy was feeling better this weekend but, unfortunately, Matty and I were not. It turns out that if you have a bad cold when you have a baby you don't get to just rest on the couch all day long . . . it's pretty much business as usual. Lovely! We were supposed to go out to dinner with friends on Saturday evening, but neither of us were feeling very well so we stayed home instead. It was Matty's birthday on Sunday, and the only thing he wished for was a nap! Just a couple of party animals over here!

This picture is from last Monday, but I thought I'd include it anyway. Our sweet little nine-month-old baby girl!

On Friday Lucy and I had a play date with my friend Bridget and her daughter Grace.

Lucy went down a slide for the first time! Here I am explaining how it's going to work.

I think she understood! The arms in the air crack me up! If she could talk, I'm pretty sure she'd be saying, "Wheee!"

After play time, Lucy and I had a very important job. Bridget is pregnant with her second baby, and had her gender ultrasound on Thursday! Even though they had the ultrasound on THURSDAY, Bridget and her husband decided to be super crazy and wait to see the results until their gender reveal party on SATURDAY! That's 48 hours of having the gender of their baby in a sealed and stapled envelope but choosing not to look. This does not compute with me! :) Yes, I know that some people wait 9 months to find out if their baby is a boy or a girl . . . but I'm not one of those people!

So anyways, when we were over there on Friday, Lucy and I were handed the sealed envelope along with pink and blue balloons and a big box. Off we went to Party City to organize a gender reveal box for Bridget and Brian to pick up for their party on Saturday!

I pulled out of Bridget's driveway, turned the corner, pulled over, and busted open that envelope! It's a. . .

. . . BOY!!! So excited for Bridget, Brian, and Grace!

So that was our morning on Friday. And by the time I got home I was feeling pretty yucky from my cold. For a minute I thought, "I'll call mom, she can come over and give me a hand with Lucy." But my mom wasn't home . . . or even in our state! She was on a well-deserved vacation in Florida visiting her friend, Dorothy! Jealous with a capital J!

You know those cute ponytails Lucy has been sporting lately? Well this is what she looks like when I take them out! haha Also, I'm not sure what her face or arms are doing in this picture.

Here she is enjoying the nice weather on a walk. Definitely could get used to this!

This next little group of photos are all from the baby monitor. We have a light up musical aquarium at the foot of Lucy's crib that we put on for her at night. She's recently discovered that she can turn herself around in her crib and flip the aquarium on and off, which I think is hilarious. Although, a few times she's woken up in the middle of the night and turned it on herself which kind of freaked me out!

So this picture is from Saturday night. We put her to bed with her head at the opposite end of where it is now. She's quite the mover and shaker in her crib! Matt had gone out to pick up food, and I sent him this picture to warn him that our evening might not be as peaceful as we'd hoped. She went to sleep soon afterward, though!

The next few are from 6:15 Sunday morning . . .ugh! She loves the aquarium!

On his birthday, Matty was kind enough to install a baby gate at the top of our stairs.

We usually mash up avocado for Lucy, but Matt gave her a big chunk at lunchtime and she enjoyed it for a bit.

For his birthday meal I made Matty meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and corn for dinner. He chose to go to Dairy Queen for dessert. Bring on the Blizzards! We gave Lucy her first bite of vanilla ice cream. She loved it, can't you tell?! haha

So that was our weekend. We really enjoyed the beautiful weather, but not so much the illnesses. Hopefully we are all on the mend. Have a great week!
