Sweet Babies and Sweet Potatoes

This first picture pretty much sums up life lately at our house. Lucy is extremely fond of blowing raspberries and is pretty much covered in drool all day long.

I mentioned in a previous post that we are working on napping in the crib. I'm proud to say that it's happened two mornings in a row! She's lasted about 45 minutes both times. Look how happy she is with herself! What I don't have a picture of is Lucy snoozing on the changing table prior to napping in her crib. She was getting fussy so my plan was to change her diaper and then put her in her crib. She was sound asleep mid diaper change. And, of course, my phone was in the kitchen.  Boooo! Trust me, it was adorable.

We go to our weekly Cuddle and Bounce music class on Thursday afternoons. This week the babies were encouraged to wear costumes. Oh. My. Goodness. They did not disappoint! I got Lucy a pumpkin costume from a second-hand clothing store for $3.50. As Halloween got closer, I was feeling a little bummed that I didn't go all out and get her a ridiculous costume. Turns out I needn't have worried. Lucy's costume was ridiculous . . .ridiculously adorable!! My heart melts when I look at this picture!

We are all ready for Cuddle and Bounce - Halloween edition. Apparently neither one of us knows where to look when taking a selfie in the mirror!

Here's Lucy with her teacher, Miss Karen, and then with all her little baby friends. Lucy had to sit in the corner because she's the only baby in class who can't sit on her own yet. #WeAreWorkingOnIt

On Wednesday night we made some sweet potatoes for Lucy to try. Matty helped puree them, and then I put them in the cutest little baby food storage containers.

We gave them to Lucy for the first time last night. I was hoping for the same reaction we get when we give her oatmeal, which is this . . .

Instead, we got this . . .

She took about 5 bites and then got fussy and started spitting them out. Oh well . . . we'll try again tomorrow night.

Have a good weekend. I'm sure there will be more Halloween cuteness to post about next week.

Happy Halloween!!

What's Up Wednesday

Found another fun blog post to participate in! I'll fill in the blanks to show what we've been up to lately. Enjoy!

1. What We're Eating this Week . . .

Ugh, dinners have been such a challenge. Everything I eat has to be dairy and soy free for little miss Lucy, so my options are very limited. I tried a new recipe in the crockpot for Brunswick Stew. It involved a pork tenderloin, BBQ sauce, beef broth, and veggies. I had high hopes because it was pretty simple to put together, but neither of us liked it very much. Bummer!

I also tried a new Chocolate Chip Muffin recipe which turned out pretty yummy. I substituted canola oil for the butter and used almond milk instead of regular milk.

2. What I'm Reminiscing About . . .

Dairy and soy. Ice cream . . pizza . . . bread. Most days I am fine with following a special diet for Lucy. But somedays, when we are extra busy or I'm tired, I miss just being able to order a pizza or go out to eat. She has her 6 month check-up next month, and hopefully I'll get the ok to reintroduce some dairy and soy into my diet.

3. What I'm Loving . . .

My new vacuum! Finally, a vacuum that I can use to clean the furniture, carpets, and hard wood all in one! Goodbye three separate vacuums, hello Shark Professional!

4. What We've Been Up To  . . .

Nothing . . . except Lucy. We are all Lucy all the time. Maybe we need a date night!

5. What I'm Dreading . . .

Winter! What am I going to do with a baby all winter long? I see lots of trips to the library for story time in our future. Matt suggested "mall walking," and explained that it's simply walking around the mall for exercise when it's too cold to walk outside. Apparently I'm not supposed to actually shop while I'm there. . . .just walk. I'm still confused.

We normally try to walk the dogs every day in the winter, unless it's ridiculously cold or icy outside. I know we will have to cut back a bit because of Lucy, but I did purchase this little gem for the days when we want to take her outside. It's the softest thing ever . . . wish they had one in my size.

6. What I'm Working On . . .

This is twofold: 1. Getting Lucy on a napping schedule and 2. Getting Lucy to nap in her crib. We are AWESOME at bedtime. Lucy takes a bottle and goes into her crib no problem, even if she's still awake. Then we usually don't hear from her for about twelve hours. Naps, however, are a different story. I can't quite figure out a schedule yet. And even when I can tell that she's tired, she just cries and cries when I put her in the crib. Currently, she prefers to nap in her swing which makes cleaning and getting chores done during nap time difficult.

I'm nervous that if I keep pushing the crib for nap time that she'll start crying when I put her in it at bed time. I don't want to ruin the good bedtime routine we've got going. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

7. What I'm Excited About . . .

The holidays! Lucy is really starting to notice things now, so I think the Christmas decorations will be really fun for her. Also, I've got some cute outfits lined up and ready to go!

8. What I'm Watching/Reading . . .

Matty and I are working our way through the first season of Fargo. I can usually manage to stay awake for one episode a night. I've been attempting to read Alert by James Patterson for some time now. I'll finish it eventually!

9. What I'm Listening To . . .

Haha, I'm listening to Raffi! I put his songs on for Lucy to try to get her to fall sleep . . . and then just left them on. They will be in my head for days now.

10. What I'm Wearing . . .

Burgundy leggings and a beige sweatshirt. So comfortable . . . and spit-up friendly. Not really cute enough for a picture, though!

11. What I'm Doing This Weekend . . .

Halloween! Holidays were made for photo opportunities, right? Lucy is going to be a pumpkin, but Matt's boss bought her a Piglet outfit that is adorable so we've been enjoying that too.

Sunday is my mom's birthday so we will be having some family time at mom and dad's . . . while eating Hot Fudge Cream Puffs! Well, everyone else will be eating them. I will most likely be drooling and watching everyone eat.

12. What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month . . .

Going to meet our new nephew! I can't wait to get my hands on this little guy!

Weekend Recap

Saturday morning was super exciting. Lucy slept in until 7:45 . . . which means Matty and I slept until 7:45 too! We woke up to the news that Sarah (Matt's sister) had gone into labor and would be having a C-Section in less than an hour! It took all of my self-control not to pack up and head to Illinois. Instead, I sat on the couch while Lucy enjoyed a few calm minutes of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. I look relaxed, but I was on the edge of my seat waiting for baby news. I believe the episode we were watching involved a song about being patient and how you can sing, play, or imagine things to make the time go by while waiting for something. Very appropriate, but easier said than done, Daniel Tiger!

And then we FINALLY got the news that this little guy had arrived!! . . .

Thomas Kissel Brennan. 7lbs 5oz. Absolute perfection  . . . wrapped up in a burrito!

It was pretty chilly during our walk on Saturday morning, so Lucy wore her new hat courtesy of my friend Amber. It's too bad this baby doesn't cooperate for pictures ;)

On Saturday afternoon we had a nice little family lunch date at Comparis. Lucy dressed up for the occasion and got a lot of compliments. We had a table right by the window. Great for people watching, but bad for getting LuLu to look at the camera.

Check out her back side . . .

In the evening we headed to the Olsons for dinner and drinks. This was the first time we've ventured out with Lucy and stayed out past her 7pm bedtime.

She fought it hard, but finally called it a night around 8:30.

Sunday started with a birthday party for Aunt Carla! I'm terrible and didn't take any pictures of Lucy with her Aunt Carla, Uncle Zack, or cousins. BUT, I did manage to photograph her looking super cute while sitting on Gordie's chair and getting attacked by Gordie's kangaroo. #GordieHasBetterToys

After the birthday party, we headed to Grandpa Gary's for a visit. Lucy demonstrated her ability to purr like a kitty while drinking her bottle. So talented!

This was definitely one of the busier weekends we've had in awhile. Lucy was super tired and in bed before 7 tonight. She also seems to be fighting her first little cold. She's been a little congested and had a cute little snore going on when I put her to bed in her crib. Hopefully she's resting up for a fun week of Halloween activities!

Friday Fall Favorites

As I was reading about the world of blogging, it was suggested several times that I introduce myself to my readers. Considering most of you are friends and family, it's a pretty safe bet that we've already met and you know quite a bit about me. I did, however, come across this cute idea for sharing my favorite things about fall. So, because I love a good alliterative title for a blog post, I decided to give it a try. Note: I did not create these categories on my own; I'm simply following  a template that's floating around in blog land.

Favorite Fall Candle Scent: "Leaves" from Bath and Body Works. I am a loyal BBW candle shopper (2 for $22!!), and our house smells like Leaves for three months straight in the fall. In fact, I recently threw a Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin into the rotation. What was I thinking?! It smells good, but I miss Leaves already. Good thing I have one ready and waiting!

Best Fall Fragrance: I don't change my perfume scent based on seasons, but I do change my lotion. I love Wild Madagascar Vanilla from BBW. I've tried apple and pumpkin scented lotions, but they aren't for me.

Fall Beverage of Choice: Um . . . water, I guess! I'm not a coffee or tea drinker so I can't jump on the Pumpkin Spice Latte bandwagon. I suppose I do enjoy the occasional apple cider.

Favorite Thanksgiving Food: Anything but the turkey! . . .it just gets in the way on my plate. I love homemade stuffing and green bean casserole. Last year there was some sort of miscommunication and we didn't have GBC at Thanksgiving! It caused quite the ruckus . . . remember, mom? :-)

Favorite Type of Pie: None! I can pass on pie any day. Why can't we have Thanksgiving cake? If I had to choose, I guess I could stomach an apple pie . . . or maybe a few bites of pumpkin. My Grandma Matzo used to make a peanut butter pie. It involved lots of peanut butter, cream cheese, and Sanders hot fudge . . .now that's my kind of pie!

Favorite Fall Sweater: Haven't worn too many yet, but I did just pick up this one at Target. I love how long it is. Matty, if you are reading this, please ignore the DSW bag on the bed!

Football Games or Leaf Piles?: Shopping

Favorite Fall TV Show: Not watching too many shows these days, Lucy sees to that! Matty and I do enjoy Blackish, though. And we've started watching the first season of Fargo, which I'm really enjoying but wish I could stay awake for more than one episode at a time. I record Scandal and watch it in 10 minute increments throughout the day during feedings.

Combat boots or Uggs: Uggs . . . I know it makes me look like I'm trying to be 19 again, but they are just so WARM!

Is Pumpkin Spice worth the hype?: Yep . . . when it allows me to have a cute decoration in my house! Thanks, Hobby Lobby!

Halloween, Yay or Nay?: Yay! I'm extremely pro-holiday. Let kiddos (and kiddos-at-heart) have some fun and be silly.

Which is better, fall mornings or evenings?: Mornings! I love a good cool, crisp, and sunny morning in the fall.

Welcome to my little slice of the online Internet where I can share as many pictures and stories about sweet little Lucy and my life as a stay-at-home-mama as I want. Feel free to check back often and leave comments below the posts. I love spending my days with such a sweet baby, and I hope you enjoy reading about our adventures.

Truer words were never spoken . . . or painstakingly written with a chalkboard marker.

Lucy is just a few hours old in this picture.

Now I get to wake up to this sweet face every single morning. . .

. . . and watch her learn new things, like rolling from her tummy to her back, and squeal about them!

Play Date!

I signed Lucy up for a weekly music class called Cuddle and Bounce. We both LOVE going and have made a few new friends! This past Tuesday, one of the moms from C&B invited a few of us over for a play date. It's really more like the babies stare at one another on the floor while the moms have some snacks and chat away.

Lucy on the right and her friend Ella on the left.

These two crazy cuties actually met a few months ago because we have some mutual friends. Here's what they looked like at one month and three months. Again, Ella is on the left and Lucy on the right. My what a difference a few months makes! Lucy has definitely caught up. Glad to see they both still share a love of headbands . . . and that Lucy found some pants!

Back to our play date . . . Lucy is showing off her awesome rolling over skills for Ella. And by "awesome" I mean that she tries to do it all day long, but has only succeeded about 4 times so far. Practice makes progress!

Their friend Catherine joined as well. She trumped Lucy's rolling demonstration by showing us how well she sits up on her own.

Here's Lucy enjoying Ella's exersaucer. Ella's family lives on a lake, so Lucy could turn around and look out their large front window and see Whitmore Lake. Definitely a much better view than the wall she often stares at at home!

Lucy getting a little wild with the donut rings . . .

It was a fun couple of hours, and I hope to host my first mommy/baby play date very soon.
